Session 14 – Part 1: Ismaila Sanusi (Finland)

The Role of Data in Artificial Intelligence Literacy in school education

Data is an integral element of artificial intelligence (AI). The recognition of data centrality to AI is evidenced in K-12 computing education literature, where how to work with data is taught as part of AI lessons. What have been the practices regarding explicitly teaching about data in the context of AI education? This presentation will present an overview of AI literacy with a specific focus on the role of data. How students understand data, including the tasks involved, could influence their comprehension of the AI process. I will discuss how working with data in AI education can be enhanced to support children’s understanding of AI.

Ismaila Sanusi is a researcher at the School of Computing, University of Eastern Finland.
Currently, his research focuses largely on democratising Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for young learners and novices.
